Im an outsider here and Im not going to go into much detail so feel free to shoot me down.
Washington only looses probably Gilbert and Blatchay for Kobe (not sure how the money works there but throw in a scrub to make it work out)
Arenas is a class act no doubt probably a top 3 scorer in the NBA but he isnt Kobe Bryant, Kobe is an excellent all round player probably the best in the NBA.
Arenas grew up in Cali, He would not reject the move to play close to home on the won of the worlds most renowned franchises, he would be getting the attention that in his own mind deserves
Kobe may be older and trading two talented younger players for an ageing star may be seen as a mistake but this is Kobe Bryant a once in a generation star. The closest thing to Jordan there has been(Not Lebron)
Kobe would accept the trade because he pairs with former teammate Butler and Jamison
Arenas has option on contract if the Wiz have a subpar season he will opt out.
Think about it Kobe Bryant on the Wizards

It's possible but there are issues. Oh, and be prepared to get roasted by Steve for that 'scrub' comment lol.
Problems:
Depending on numerous factors, Jamison may well not get re-signed. As Steve and me have discussed at some length, GA wants max. That means DC. Lastly, is it worth it for DC? yes they get a first ballot HOFer BUT can you get enough pieces to make it count?
Interesting...

Blatche might have been a scrub last season, but things will change this season and if they did trade Blatche (which Grunfeld has stated numerous times that they will now) it would be a mistake in a few seasons. The thing about this trade idea that has always bothered me is that the Wizards aren't an off guard away from being cotenders, they're an inside presence away from being contenders. Bryant doesn't improve their scoring that much, and Arenas actually creates more offense for the rest of his team than Bryant does for his. Plus trading for Bryant doesn't really help their interior defense, which is really where they're hurting. Also, they'd also have to include someone like Nick Young and Pecherov in the deal as well, and trading three younger players with potential for a player that isn't going to improve the team dramatically the next two seasons before he opts out of his contract and leaves for another city.

I agree with Stevie on this- Scoring isnt the problem here, and their perimeter D, whilst shaky, isnt the main area of concern either. Which is why they should get a big for Jamison, right Steve?
Having said that, if Gil wants max then maybe it's not such a bad idea. Then you have a true off guard (i may adopt 'off-guard' as my 'thing' steve, what do you reckon?) who can actually play top drawer D.

I'd be down with that, we could even start up a bandwagon. And I'd be all in favor of trading Jamison for a few pieces if Blatche didn't show so much promise, who is shown some pretty significant signs of being a functional 5 tool player and provides the interior defense the Wizards have been lacking. So I'm willing to roll the dice on him at the moment and see how he develops. Now if say the Timberwolves offered a trade like this: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=385~2389~687&teams=16~27~27&te=&cash=then I would trade Jamison in a heart beat (no offense Antawn).

Well, I'm not sure how it would help the Timberwolves, but it certainly helps the Wziards, which is really all I care about.

I think im in awe of Kobe Bryant, I wouldnt pass up the oppurtunity even if it didnt make my team that much better. But you make good points steve and have convinced me that it probably wouldnt be for the best
how are ticket sales over in Washington I'm sure Kobe would improve them even though you have Gilbert. Charlotte really needs someone like him

Washington is the dark horse to get Kobe. Wow, what a deal that would be!

Wow, you're like two days late, it's already been shot down by Grunfeld.
