So you are substituting a high scoring shooting guard with another high scoring shooting guard. As much as Kobe would want to play with Jason Kidd, Rod Thorn would veto on the basis that it would be cheaper to keep Carter who he has just publicly expressed his desire to keep and just signed to another contract and use the remaining salary cap for either front court help or any other player between now and the break. Where is the link?

Yes, I'm replacing a high scoring SG with high scoring SG who's way better. You're right about it being too expensive, so Thorn could do a deal with Kobe: Kobe opts out, Nets re-sign him at 10-15 M per year (instead of him making 23 M in '09-'10 and 24.8 M in '10-'11). Kobe, being the a.sshole he is, might not cooperate though and I don't think you can make a legally binding deal like that. But here's an idea: Thorn gives an ultimatum to Kobe to sign at 10-15 M per year or he won't re-sign Kidd, who's a FA the same year Kobe has the opt-out. Link couldn't be posted because Carter can't be traded until Dec. 15th.

If I am the Nets I take this deal in a heartbeat. You get the best player in the NBA for a lesser version of him and some throw ins, and you have easily the best backcourt in all of basketball with Kidd and Kobe, both offensively and defensively.

One week ago people would say "Antoine who?". The guy played two good games and he's already a "future allstar"? Whooooa, hold on there. Let's not jump on a bandwagon yet. Wink

Wright is a decent bencher at best, and they dont save that much money really. In fact, they'll be paying carter through the eyes for another 4 years anyway.

You can put Krstic instead of him but then it's not nearly as good for NJ.
Anyway, there's no way Wright will be a bench player in his prime. 11th pick in the draft, unbelievable athleticism, great 3-point shot, right attitude.

Carter, Krstic, Magloire (expiring 4 M), Collins and Nachbar (expiring 2.5 M) for Kobe, Vujacic, Mihm and Radmanovic.
Force Kobe to opt-out and sign a 10-15 M per year contract by telling him Kidd, who'll be a FA at the same time, won't be re-signed if he doesn't comply.

Kidd/Williams/Vujacic
Kobe/Wright/Vujacic
Jefferson/Wright/Radmanovic
Radmanovic/Boone/Allen/Robinson
Mihm/Boone/Williams/Robinson
Incoming value: 29.4 M

Fisher/Farmar/Crittenton
Carter/Evans/Crittenton
Odom/Walton/Nachbar
Krstic/Turiaf/Cook/Collins
Bynum/Kwame/Magloire/Collins
Incoming value: 27.8 M
