I can't believe they're thinking of bringing this has been back again. Now that they finally have a half way decent team potentially what in the world are they doing bringing him back? People forget that he was the one who put the Warriors in basketball hell. I guess they want him to do it again, that is undo all they have done in the past few years to try and get this franchise on track.

Maybe most of you don't know or forgot that it was Nelson who came in as VP when the Warriors last made it to the second round of the playoffs when they took the Lakers and Magic to 6 games with the three man tandom of Sleep Floyd, Purvis Short and Joe Barry Carrol. He came in as the GM and clearly said he wasn't interested in coaching and after they had that great run in the playoffs, he fired their coach and took over and immediately dismantled the team that took them to second round. Do you remember who the coach he fired was? It was George Karl who went on to Seattle and became one of the best coaches in the NBA and the Warriors went into mediocrity. Then came their chance when the managed to get Christ Webber and had Sprewell and were poised to make a run at the championship. They went 7 and 1 that year (had Webber, Sprewell, Mitch Richmond, Mullin and Rony Seikaly at center) and remember what happened? He got into it with Webber (it became him or me and since Nelson was the coach Webber got moved) and the rest is history, they've been terrible ever since. Now that they  seem to be getting out of the doldrums what are they going to do? Bring him back. And by the way, what was he doing in Dallas these past years? Not going anywhere and as soon as they got rid of him and Avery stepped in, what do they do? Make it to the Finals? Coincidence? I dont think so. Good luck if they bring him back. I cannot believe it. Nelson is an egotistical self-centered individual who does have basketball sense who thinks he knows it all in my opinion. Now they are not only going to probably have to pay Nelson a fat salary but they're going to have pay Montgomery's for the next two years as well. I wonder what "genius" came up with this one.  If Monty is gone, please get someone else (Elie for example) and not him otherwise deja vu all over again as Yogi might say.

too much dysfunction to be fixed by one player or one coach. I dont think he will be any better at the job than Mike Montgomery. Golden State is a black hole for coaches. They go in, but they never come out...

Thank God Musselman got another shot, he was good

I agree. He sure was way better than Monty was. The problem with him was that Warriors management decided to let the inmates run the asylum instead of backing the coach. He was partly at fault because he stopped communicating with the players because of it which I believe was his inexperience as a head coach. I suspect he will do much better this time around. I'm afraid that Nelson is likely to do what he did before, dismantle a good group of players and keep his handpicked butt kissers. That's usually his modus operandi.

I forgot to mention Tim Hardaway was also on that Warriros team which had a shot at the title that year.

How can you *** on the guy because he was the last coach to get the warriors to the playoffs?  Yeah he screwed some things up with their lineup but we can't make him the scapegoat for 12 years of pathetic basketball. I say good hire, coaches are so important in basketball and an unproven college coach obviously wasn't getting the job done. Now all we have to do is trade some of these ridiculous contracts to the Knicks for first rounders.

Where in the hell are you coming from?  They finally have a potentially good team?  It's the same *** they had before, minus O'bryant who I think will eventuallly be good.

Nelson is a GREAT MOVE by the Warriors.  He's an offensive guru, they are an offensive minded bunch of guys.  Nelson has oodles of experience and knowledge to pas onto his new players.  They won't be in the playoffs soon, but they will improve.

I actually feel kind of bad that old Nellie will have to endure life with overpaid contract disasters like Mike Dunleavey Jr., Troy Murphy and Adonal Foyle.

Don Nelson is perfect for the Warriors. Enough said. Chris Mullin is trying to get the right team put together. If not Mullin is gone and Nellie will get his reins!

Don Nelson is an offensive minded coach, and with Baron Davis and Jason Richardson as your 2 main players, i think it could be a good fit.

The fact that Nelson got into it with Webber in the past is a good thing, as it could be a sign that he won't tolerate B-Diddy's crap. Davis needs to be held in check for the Warriors to succeed. Also, giving him and J-Rich a coach who focuses on offense would keep them happy.

Of course this is all speculation and i could be totally wrong. I do think that since the players were obviousely unhappy with Montgomery that they will give Nelson the benefit of the doubt.

On a side not, i was rooting for Elie. That guy was the type of player that every championship team needs, and he definately has above average basketball IQ.

This "has been" has been to the playoffs 4 years so far this decade.  How many years has it been since the Warriors made it?  11 or 12, right?  Furthermore, the last time GS was consistently a playoff team was with Nelson.

He probably isn't going to bring a title to GS, but he can teach them how to be a top offense, win games and ultimately be prepared(like the Mavs) for the next coach to add his touch to a well educated team(courtesy of Nellie) who is on it's way.

Finally, I'll just say that I would sure as hell rather have a "Has been" rather than a "Never was" like Mike Montgomery.
