can we trade bird? for a sandwich? sure why not.. the sandwich wouldn't pull off these ridiculous trades he's been making

ummm.. am i the only one pissed that we got rid of bayless? i was ready to call our draft a success no matter who we got with #17, but now it look like our draft is just average at best.
our two best players play the 2/3 rush brings nothing that we don't already have in granger/dunleavy
we could've had a dynamic point guard.. big, athletic, can drive and shoot. he reminds me of a derron williams type player. i know we just brought in ford but bayless was the best player available in my book. a steal at #11.
i hate to say it but bird has got to go. Im really surprised that bayless slide at no.11 and im very happy but when I heard the trade our draft goes out badly and its very frustrating!!! fired Bird!!!

I have no problem with the Bayless trade. We have more pressing needs, such as interior defense, perimeter defense and perimetter shooting. With the TJ Ford trade, we were free to address these other areas.
Bayless would've been a nice pickup, but Jarrett Jack is a very nice consolation prize. He can play either G position, he plays defense, he's also a leader. Was a bit erratic in Portland, but we have a great reputation for turning fringe players into solid contributors. I think Jack will fit in nicely.
With Brandon Rush and Hibbert, we can resurrect the old Reggie Miller and Rik Smits plays that made us so good in the 90's. Hibbert has range out to 20ft, and Rush is nearly a carbon copy of Miller's skill set. Within a few years he will be one of the premier shooters in the league.
We got rid of Diogu, who was really just a waste of space and apparently we're bringing back Maceo Baston - who should be a much better fit in O'Brien's system than in Carlisle's. McRoberts could be a solid contributor in a couple years as well.
Personally I think we're in pretty good shape. There's still time to make more changes, but we've got a really nice core group here and within a few years we'll be contenders again.

the only thing i dont mind about the bayless trade is that if:
bayless may become a tweener guard who struggles to find a position in the nba.
while we know brandon rush wont be a superstar.. but he can become a fringe allstar and a pure shooting guard.
SG: Brandon Rush SF: Danny Granger
is both defence and offence.

SG: Brandon Rush SF: Danny Granger is both defence and offence. I think you're right about Bayless. He's not a natural PG, but Jarrett Jack is. Plus, Jack is a big time leader. In games last year where he got 30+ min a game, Jack put up some very nice stat lines -- and against some tough teams. I disagree with your opinion on Rush. No one thought Reggie Miller would be the player he turned out to be, and I think Rush really has a lot of potential if not more (especially defensively) than Miller did. So now we've got: PG: Ford, Jack, Diener SG: Dunleavy, Rush, Daniels SF: Granger, Williams, Graham PF: Murphy, Baston, McRoberts C: Hibbert, Foster, Nesterovic Now the big ? here, ironically, is the PF spot. I wouldn't be shocked if Bird traded Daniels, Williams or both for a solid PF that can really get on the glass and defend.

I hear people say that he didn't showcase all his skills because his kansas team was stacked. that is total BS, if he was the best player on the team his skills should have showed. being on a stacked team didn't hurt guys like rose, westbrook, love (all lottery), cdr (all american). maybe its not in his character to be that aggressive take over a game type of player which is why i see him being more like danny. jack is nothing more than a back up pg that will get 10 mins a game. i know for a fact that portland fans were happy to see him leave. too turnover prone and an erratic shooter. the tweener guards are the in thing in the nba right now. small ball is used a lot by teams. baron/ellis, paul/pargo, nash/barbosa, hinrich/gordon,

At the beginning of the year he was deferring a lot to others, during the NCAA tournament he stepped it up.
He will rock.
Jack and Diener can keep Ford from getting worn down. If the coaching staff watches, they can spread the minutes at all positions. If you dress them, you play them. Maybe we can make it through the season without injuries.

Well, Rush isn't a big time defensive specialist...my point was that he's certainly got just as much (if not more) potential there than Reggie Miller did.
And I would also disagree that Rush & Granger have the same skill set. Granger is bigger, stronger, has a bit of a post game, and is a very good defender and rebounder. He's also more polished. Rush has better quickness, length, range on his shot, and can hit jumpers coming off of sceens.
Not all NBA superstars dominate in college, either. I'm not saying Rush is (or ever will be) a NBA superstar, but you can't judge his pro career based on a few years in college - some of which were injury plagued and/or developmental.
Jack is coming into his 3rd season. Nobody comes into the league and shoots 60% while making perfect passes. He's had his ups and downs, but I think with us he'll have a legitimate chance to earn the starting job and actually be one of the top guards in the East. He's got that kind of potential.
I'm still very happy with the trade. We're better off with 2 young quality high-character talents than one.

i have to disagree with you. yeah granger is bigger and stronger but he doesn't use the post up game, he's more of a perimeter shooter, which is the same thing rush will be.
its not the part about dominating in college. he just seems laid back, much like granger is which is why i made the comparison about their games.

I actually like guys that can get it done and do it quietly. I love games where Granger doesn't seem to be doing much, but then he ends up with 20&10.

Blazer fan here.Word is that it was a pre-arranged deal that if EITHER Bayless or Augustin was available the deal would occur.I doubt Bird really thought Bayless would be there(but thats Pritchard thinking ahead). As to Jarret Jack what you are receiving is a tough(actually got into Lamar Odoms face for trying to enter Blazers huddle once)and hardworking team player. He will play hard every night. On the downside his outside shot is inconsistent and has a tendency to be careless with the ball

The whole Jarrett Jack thing confused me a little, I would loved to see more players from Indy involved and us getting James Jones prior to his opting out. Jack will contribute, but Diener is a great backup. The Pacers are now loaded at PG.

Jack can also play the 2 guard.James Jones could not be included as his opt out clause occurred before the draft and as I said in my previous post it was a pre-arranged deal so actually a fair amount to essentially move down 2 spots in the draft.Only in hindsight with Bayless being there does it seem more a bad deal on the Pacers part.Even then Bayless doesn't really fit on Indiana's current roster and Rush is the player they would have drafted in any probablity. They just add Jack as a bonus

we really should of gotten that pick 27.
putting Brandon Rush and Darrell Arthur in the team, 2 national champs, would of been great for pacers.
