As a Redbirds fan, I really don't expect the team to make the playoffs this year. But as long as they play hard till the end, I see it as a successful season. They found a lot of positives in the team, Ludwick and Ankiel broke out, Glaus performed better than anybody expected, they have some nice prospects like Colby Rasmus who can hopefully be ready next year, Carpenter will be back for the full season next year, they seem to have a closer of the future in Chris Perez, and Pujols is likely going to win the MVP.
The only thing that still terrifies me is if Pujols even suffers the slightest tweak in his elbow, he's going to have to have Tommy John surgery and be out for at least a year. Pujols would frighten me even while rehabbing from TJ. He's a pleasure to watch, even in a rival uniform. He's at worst the second-best player in the game (depending on what you think of Alex Rodriguez); he's as gifted a hitter as there's ever been, and even though he plays a less valuable position, he's Gold-Glove caliber. The Cards' lineup overall is nice. There are a lot of positives, as you said. I don't doubt Ankiel; he's always been a good hitter. How much are you guys really expecting from Ludwick, though? He's going .300/.375/.600 at the moment, but he's 29, and I think he's playing over his head. How your rotation has done what it's done this year is mind-boggling. I'm not prepared to live in a world where a team can get away with a rotation of Kyle Lohse, Todd Wellemeyer, Braden Looper, and Joel Piniero for an entire season. |

If Pujols wins MVP then I'd love to hear what he has to say considering the whining he did when Howard won the MVP, saying that the MVP should go to a player whose team makes the playoffs. So would I... although, frankly, I endorse his selection now as I did then. Aren't the MVP races this year just a clusterbleep? The best candidates in either league are Pujols and Lance Berkman, but the odds are against them because their teams aren't going to make the playoffs. (The BBWAA is pathetic like that sometimes.) I actually expect Chase Utley to win in the NL; in any other year, he might have earned it. On topic: I worry about having to rely too much on Harden, and I worry about needing to use Marquis in a prominent role in the playoffs. Hopefully the rest will do Z some good. |

The problem with the Cubs is that they aren't the White Sox. They are just the inferior team in Chicago and if people would realize that, the city wouldn't be so divided. Let's all become on and cheer on the White Sox!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I gotta get some Cubs fans views on the recent moves they've made. They're moves that look like they were made to free up money, and then also to add pitching prospects. Seems like a situation that could do one or both of adding Jake Peavy to the rotation and/or adding Milton Bradley to the lineup.
If it's both, then I couldn't be happier. Peavy will make the Cubs rotation easily the best in baseball, and Bradley will give the Cubs not only a great left handed bat, but a player with some attitude, with some actual personality to throw in there, maybe that'll give them the true spark that they really need.

If you want to settle for a mediocre .500 team :wink: I wish I saw this earlier. I believe we actually won a game in the playoffs whereas the cubs got swept once again, to the worst team in the playoffs, once again in the measly NL west. The Cubs are a fairytale. Enjoy the story. I hope there curse doesn't rub off on the Blackhawks today, as I will be there. |
