Carlos Quentin has been a hell of a steal. Usually when Kenny hypes up his "under the radar" moves, they're just okay. But I don't think ever he thought that kid would come in and lead the AL in homers and be a near lock for the All-Star game only months removed from surgery.
The kid pitchers (Floyd and Danks) have been better than I expected. Very solid so far, especially Gavin Floyd.

I saw Floyd pitch in the preseason a year before this and I thought he was something special.
As for Quentin, no one expected that. I don't think Williams even expected that. I had him penciled in as maybe a backup type of guy or a guy who would be adequate there, but he's blown my mind.

I was at the Cubs/Sox game yesterday (Saturday), and the guy next to me was calling Quentin Jose Canseco Jr.
He did have a solid point as far as both looking similar and having similar batting stances. He also thought Quentin is juicing, as anytime a player has a jump in stats like that it's gotta bring up questions, but there's no evidence otherwise, so I'm not saying anything yet.

Quentin's big, sure. But he was big last year, too, and he wasn't putting up numbers like that. Also, he's in a bit of a slump right now.

I don't believe Quentin juicing. When you check his stats, he raked at every level when healthy. That's why he was a highly touted prospect to begin with.
But he had a busted up shoulder last season, which is why the D'Backs traded him. He got surgery, got healthy and now he's doing the damn thing.

I was at the game last night. And all I can say is that if they can win small ball games like that along with having slugger games, it'll be very hard to beat them in the playoffs. It'll be difficult to get there with Tamp Bay, the LA Angels and Boston all being great teams, but I'd say they have a very good chance at another title.

I starting to think this team could actually be better without Paul Konerko.
Nick Swisher is defensively superior at 1st. He's excellent at working counts, has a good OBP. While Swisher has done a solid job in the outfield, Brian Anderson is one of the best defensive outfielders in the majors (If only he could consistently hit!), and Dewayne Wise has been good since he was called up also. Both, especially Wise, give us more speed to balance the lineup, and you saw in the game against the Indians last night how important that can be.
Paulie's key addition to this team is power, and with Swish, Quentin, Dye and Thome, we already have four guys in the lineup easily capable of 30+ hrs.

I am excited that we got Griffey, but a bit concerned about how it will all work out. The Sox needed a left-handed bat, but with that said, they are getting a guy who is a defensive liability out in CF.
For what its worth I would have been happy outright benching Konerko and moving Swisher to 1B while BA and Wise split CF duties.
What the Sox really needed was another Starting Pitcher. I wish they made a move for A.J. Burnette.
