I think there was a thread lower asking for these predictions, but here goes:
Strengths: Athleticism, O. We've got a star (JJ) with plenty of role players around him (3 PT specialists: Bibby, Evans; scorer: Crawford; rebounder: Zaza). That core alone would give us a league average O, but we've also got Joe Smith (a jump shooting big) and the some fierce athletes (Smoove, Horford, Marvin, and Teague) that have some skills as well.
It'll be interesting to watch how we incorporate Smoove, Horford, Marvin, and Teague into this mix. My guess is that Marvin will stick to the arc and work from the outside. I hope we'll see him develop his slashing skills a little more which, along with his development of his 3 PT'er last year, would make him a pretty formidable weapon and elevate him to the #2 option. Horford will stick to the elbow and high post area. Horford has shown some abilities as a passer and has enough of a mid-range game to be able to take an opponent's C out of the paint. Smoove should stick to the blocks. I think he can handle the high post as well (he's actually pretty underrated as a distributor), but his athleticism and sheer leaping ability give him a mismatch against any other PF in the league. Anybody's guess is as good as mine as to how we'll deploy Teague.
Weakness: D. Oddly enough. With Smoove, JJ, Marvin, and Horford and an OK defensive C role player in Collins, you'd think that we could deploy just about anyone and still be able to manage a league average D, but I'm not so sure. Crawford and Bibby are known defensive liabilities; Zaza is a mismatch unless he guards one position on the floor. Our defensive philosophy has always been to switch on screens since all our positions (except PG and backups) could basically guard anyone on the floor. That's no longer the case. How fast will we adjust? That's the ? I have that will determine how good our D can be.
