Actually, if Hayes comes back healthy (which might be wishful thinking, I have no idea) then the Wizards will have pretty good depth at the swing positions, Arenas, Daniels, Butler, Hayes, Jefferies, even Jamison.  They still have problems on the inside, but if Blanche and The Ukrainian (I can't spell or pronounce his name so that'll be his name from here on out, as a bonus I think he's the only Ukrainian in the league, so that helps) can be abel to contribute all the better.  They both had good stats in the opening summer league game, maybe they can even get something out of Peter John Ramos, that'd be cool, I'm ready for anything that will transplant the two head beast that is Etan Thomas and Brendan Haywood (although if it was possible to combine them into one single player somehow through genetics that would be great, I suggest we persue that angle a bit more).

No use. They are both shot-blockers, but get pushed around in the block. Both can score if within dunkling range but not any farther (at least not consistently). :? Haywood is taller, Thomas a tiny bit quicker but the difference is minute (not that Thomas is quick, but Haywood is slow).

For remedy, Magloire is available via trade. He can score inside, but he is slow in fast break (part of the reason Bucks want to rid off him) as well. If he could not fit in with Bucks, he may not be able to fit in with Wiz. In addition, the price may be too high, and he will be an unrestricted free agnet next year, then what?

I would not mind keep Haywood as center (for lack of better alternatives), and get a power forward, someone like Udonis Haslem, who can rebound, play D, and do the dirty work. Not a scorer (wiz already have enough), but can hit the open shot if need to.

Songalila may fit the bill, I don't know. I still don't understand why Wiz did not try to sign Matt Bonner last year when he was a FA. Well, Haslem was undrafted, maybe Wiz can find someone from nowhere as well.

I don't agree that Thomas and Haywood are the same type of player.  Thomas plays like a bull in a china shop and Haywood is more of a finesse center who has some decent moves down low occasionally.

God I wished they'd never changed from the Bullets.

Agreed.

And I think most of the Washington fans know that they just need some more front court offense n' speed and some more D there. Someone that can comlpiment the firepower coming from the backcourt.

The quickness and physical strength shown by them in some games last year were      Just need some more of that upfrount.

Oh yeah Gil's insane. As in he could be in an asylum at any moment. And that's a good thing in this over-hyped NBA.

Thomas does have the body that looks like can be a force inside. But he still got pushed around quite often, and he injures a lot. At the early part of last season he even had the ball blocked by the front rim a couple of times! This may be because he hadn't fully recovered from his stomach pull  (incredibly slow recovery?)  I don't know.

Other similarities between Haywood and Thomas I didn't mentioned include: neither of them can put the ball on the floor and take it to the basket, neither of them is a good free throw shooter, etc.

Taylor is OK, I hope he can improve on his jump shot. Blatche is the guy I hope can blossom.

Man, I may have to take my "OK" remark back. Taylor is shooting 13 for 46 in the summer league, a dismal 28.26%. He does not have to be a scorer, but he needs to be a better shooter than that to be effective coming off the bench!

Well ESPN reported that Wiz has signed Songalila 23 mil for 5 yrs (last yr player option). I don't knoiw why the Wiz didn't sign him last yr. His price last yr was cheaper, and I feel that he could have helped them last yr (their bench was kinda thin llast yr after Hays went down and Atkins traded).

This yr, Blatche should be better, and I thought the Ukraine guy can help. Besides, he is signed for 5 yrs. If any of the two developed and Jeffries retianed, they are going to have a log jam in forwards. Who knows, may be they are thinking about getting rid of Jamison eventually.

I like the Songaila signing, he gives them a consistent scoring presence inside which they haven't had in awhile (since Howard was traded).  While they probably could've gotten him cheaper last season, $23 million over 5 years isn't exactly overpaying him (it's downright sensible actually).  Rebounding is still going to be an issue with this team.  Looking at the summer league box scores Blanche and the Ukranian have looked very good for the most part, it'll be nice to see if they can actually develope an inside game.  And I think for them to get any further in the playoffs they'll probably have to deal Jamison, which is a little disappointing because he's been such a positive influence on this team and good team leader.

Yeah, Blatche seems to play well in the summer league, but turnovers seems to be high (5 to 6 per game), don't know how much he is handling the ball though.

I don't think Wiz will trade Jamison just yet. He will be with the team in 06-07. But 07-08 will be the last year of his contract; they may make a decision then based on how the youngsters develop, how much he is asking for his new contract and what else is available out there, etc.

I agree with that. If the Wizards don't advanced past the second round by then, i think the wizards will try to go a different route.

Since this a random thoughts topic, i want to know what do you think the Wizards are going to have to do to beat the damn Heat next year...frustrates the HELL out of me that we cant beat them. I know you guys are gonna pull out that nobody can guard Shaq but i dont think thats neccessarily the problem, hell nobody else in the league can. So how do you guys think we beat them?

They didn't deserve anything in that series, he had one questionable call with that game winner, everything else is mindless bitching.  We should be more angered with Jamison for not guarding the baseline, or Arenas missing those free throws.  The Wizards lost that series on their own merits.  I hate how no one has the ability to turn their glare inward and recognize that maybe it was the team did wrong to lose the game rather than the refs missing a call (and this is a problem with this entire forum, everyone thinks they're team was wronged when in all likelihood their team screwed up or their best player just didn't show up, put things in perspective for once).

He traveled once at the end of Game 3, the baseline play wasn't a travel as he did a jump stop into middle where he made the shot.  If Jamison had been guarding the baseline like anyone who is ever taught how to play defense should've been, James wouldn't have been able to make the jump stop into the middle and the Wizards don't lose the game.  To blame it on one single play, even if it was the game winner, is just sour grapes.

but you cant hold position to block baseline because its a blocking foul...
and jamison didnt have complete vision of lebron he didnt know he was so far out. jared jeffries should have came up earlier to stop the penetration and jamison could recover
