The trade ahs been verbally agreed. By trading Tyson Bulls freed themselves from his remainly 5 year 50 something million contract and receive the small Brown 1 yr 8 mill contact and J.R. Smith's contract. With that they ahve money to spend such as on Ben Wallace's contract. And now Aldridge will have good minutes playing C. (unless he switches to PF)

I cant believe the two deals JP pulled off here in the past couple of days. Along with the Eddy Curry trade and the recent draft of TyThomas and Sabo, it probably puts the Bulls atop the weak Eastern Conference.
The Bulls played the Heat tougher then anyone in the playoffs and now look at what they added and subtracted. With the past two trades they swapped Tyson Chandler for Ben Wallace, PJ Brown and JR Smith. With Chandler's contract off the books the Bulls can lock up there young core of players and added 2 veterans who will get calls for themselves and for the rest of the bulls. They command respect and will show these young bulls how to win. Then they have Ty Thomas which could be a hybrid Amare / Shawn Marion and Sabo a defensive big guard who can take pressure off of Kirk....now Kirk can focus on scoring and running the team. They also added a great 2 guard with JR smith....hey if the Spurs wanted him....he has to be good....just hope he doesnt *** of Scott Skiles....
And in addition to all of this....Big Ben only got a 4 yrs deal ...so its not a bad contract and PJ Browns contract is over after this year....and to top it off.... we get the Knicks lottery pick in 2007 which is supposedly the deepest draft in years!!!

Check out JR Smith's profile from the 2004 Draft.... Strengths: Has a 44-inch vertical leap to go with excellent range on his jumpshot. An excellent finisher on the break. Personal: Son of Ioa and Earl Smith. Has three brothers and two sisters. Favorite sport other than basketball is football. Lists fellow draft prospect Luol Deng as the best player he’s ever faced. Favorite foot is baked ziti. Favorite basketball announcer is Dick Vitale. Wears No. 23 because of Michael Jordan. The Hornets have long been in need of a true shooting guard and Smith's shooting and jumping are truly inspirational at times. The fact that he arrived so suddenly on the scene after a sizzling run in the postseason tournaments gives us reason for pause, his athleticism and shooting range are just too much to pass off as a fluke. Ah, JR Smith is a great athlete. And PJ Brown is the inside post guy the Bulls need with Ben Wallace at center now.
I hope that Smith can get the playing time he needs in Chicago though. With Thabo Stefosa (sp?) and Ben Gordan, I don't know if Smith will get the playing time he needs to show people in the windy city what he really has to offer. Smith can play small forward, but with guys like Andres Nocaconi (sp?), Luol Deng, and Tyrus Thomas there, I doubt he finds time.

CHI's gonna regret it. You don't give up a guy who is a 7'3" rebounder and shotblocker who is not even near his prime for salary cap space and a guy who will never see daylight for playing time on a roster filled with guards.
They already had problems with their interior scoring. Now they will not have any interior defence. Good Job John.

One thing Paxon knows that Isiah Thomas doesn't is how to collect the right type of assets for your team. The posts here have been seeing a
traditional pg/sg/sf/pf/c lineups. Well, the Bulls may begin a game that way but during the course of the game I bet they plan to play a lot of unconventional lineups.
When Pax said TT doesn't have a position but that's ok, then you know his type of player not only has to be athletic but VERY versatile--multiple positions. In my mind he doesn't mind being Phoenix of the Eastern conference. How do you explain all the swing fowards he's gathering up.
As you will see Skiles will not hesitate to challenge his players beyond their "set" positions. Pax is making plans for the Bulls beyond Shaq and Miami. He sees more Lebron James, Carmello Anthony, and Kobe Bryant
type teams in the league. Of course if Pax got Greg Ogden he could make an exception.

Chicago hasn't regretted anything that's been done since Paxson took over and this latest trade is no different.
Tyson Chandler is only 7'0" (not 7'3") and he was a bench player this year so what do you expect him to do playing behind Wallace, a guy who does all the same things only better? Would you want to be dishing out big money for the next half decade to a backup who can't stay out of foul trouble, make a layup, or sink freethrows? I think Chandler is a good guy who means well and tries hard, but he does stupid things on the court, and I think he lacks the mental toughness and offensive talent to ever break out into more than a backup.
On the contrary, as many people have pointed out the move helps in many ways, most of all by allowing Chicago to pay for Ben Wallace's contract. JR Smith is a talent but I don't think he fits in with the Bull's plan. The knock on him is that he lacks a good work ethic and he doesn't play defense. Besides, they have enough guys at his position (Nocioni, Deng, Sefolosha at SF and Gordon at 2). Figure on Paxson using him as trade bait in about 60 days to a team that has a spot for him and doesn't put as much stock into personality -- probably for a low post offensive threat. If you ask me, he's a Knick kinda guy -- although I think Thomas is done dealing with Paxson. Finally, PJ is a great guy and still capable in the post scoring and rebounding and always reliable hitting a jumper.
As bright as things look for the Bulls this season with their additions through free agency, trade, and the draft, the future looks just as bright with valuable trade options, expiring contracts, and more lottery picks to come (thanks to the Knicks). The Bulls are back in town.

PJ Brown will show some leadership on this young team and maybe show Tyrus Thomas some tricks. He's an expiring contract who'll give the Bulls (whos already still under the cap) some more free agent flexibility next year. He could also backup Ben Wallace at center if Michael Sweetney proves to be a starter while Tyrus Thomas develops or Tyrus Thomas himself has a breakout rookie year.

Is getting fifteen freaking million dollars every season for the next four years to improve a defense that was already really good. We needed help on offense. I know there was no one else to spend the money on, but $15 million? What, was Chandler that hopeless? |

Chandler's is not hopeless, but he is certainly clueless in either side of the court. Height does not make you a better player instantly, basketball should be played with brain.
