If you're going to lay an egg -- and Adam Morrison and Tyrus Thomas could have made omelets Monday -- this is the place.
Welcome to the NBA, summer-league version.
"Obviously, that's why they have these leagues," Morrison said.
". . . This is where you make mistakes. Get them all out of the bag."
Morrison and Thomas -- the third and fourth picks in the June 28 draft, respectively -- will not remember fondly their first taste of the NBA.
Thomas, a 6-foot-9 forward for the Chicago Bulls, missed 6 of 9 shots and had six turnovers. He finished with 10 points and four rebounds.
Morrison, a 6-8 forward for the Charlotte Bobcats, was 3 of 14 and finished with 12 points. He had two turnovers, four rebounds and five assists.
Their teams did win, however.
Orlando's six-team summer league, featuring rookies and free agents, tipped off with the Bobcats beating the Miami Heat 83-65; the Bulls defeating the Indiana Pacers 93-88; and the New Jersey Nets edging the Magic 86-82 at RDV Sportsplex in Maitland.
Thomas, 19, left Louisiana State a year early. He had a shot blocked -- something he rarely experienced in the Southeastern Conference -- but showed the athleticism that had pro teams drooling.
"The guys out there are just as athletic and skilled as I am, so I just have to be patient and take my time," Thomas said.
Bulls Coach Scott Skiles watched Thomas and guard Thabo Sefolosha -- Chicago's other first-round pick -- from the sideline. Sefolosha, a 6-7 shooting guard from Switzerland, had 16 points on 6 of 8 shooting and had four steals.
"I thought Tyrus was OK for his first game," Skiles said.
