Bulls point guard Derrick Rose has spent a significant amount of time working on his shot from three-point land this offseason.

Rose is currently playing for Team USA at the FIBA World Championships, where the three-point line is three feet shorter than on NBA courts.

"It's something I've been working on over the summer with my trainer Rob (McClanaghan), and over here I stay after practice and take lots of reps shooting NBA threes," Rose said. "Now when I'm open or need to shoot it, I will because I am confident it'll go in."

Rose attempted just 72 three-pointers in his rookie year and 60 in 2009-10. He's a 24.2% shooter for his career.

just wanted to add this story from the chicago tribune on the same topic. i haven't had a chance to catch the angola game, but hearing that he has emerged as a vocal leader on a team filled with stars is great. if he can do it in that setting, he should have no problem doing it with his bulls squad. also, i realize the fiba line is 3 feet shorter, but 3-4 from behind the arc is awesome!

Derrick Rose is adding to his game. Averaging 8.5 points and 2.9 assists in six starts, Rose has emerged as a vocal leader at the advice of coach Mike Krzyzewski and has continued to develop a 3-point touch that will dangerously round out his offensive game. The FIBA line is 3 feet shorter than the NBA's, but Rose's 3-for-4 showing behind the arc against Angola provided a glimpse of the new confidence from long range he vowed to bring to his third season. "It's something I've been working on over the summer with my trainer Rob (McClanaghan), and over here I stay after practice and take lots of reps shooting NBA threes," Rose said. "Now when I'm open or need to shoot it, I will because I am confident it'll go in."

I have yet to see him take a jump shot. But seeing him play on team usa, the first game I saw maybe about 3 weeks ago, it looks like he is making progress on defense. I'm not completley sure, but his foot work looks better, than it was 3 weeks ago. The first game I saw team usa I was suprised he was giving an effort their. And yesterday's game, he was giving an effort, his defense wasn't even that bad. And I was thinking, man, if he can just get that foot work down, stay on the toes of his feet, move with the defender correctly, that could be HUGE. It makes a difference between us being an okay team, and putting us over the top. Anyway, thus far, the effort to improve is their, he just need to keep executing because he still has a ways to go, one glimpse of good defense doesn't translate to a consistently good defender. But he's working over there, I think he's doing the right things, he needs to do foot work drills (if he's not already) because it's obvious to me, that he's terrific up and down explosive runner, but defending takes on different leg muscles that you need to work on. Side to side, starting and stopping, back pettling etc. I hope he's not one of those guys who sees a little bit of improvement, and says "okay good enough" the key is if he has the will to KEEP IMPROVING and KEEP WORKING. We'll see what he does.

i think he's shown he's not the type of player to settle for a slight improvement. he's improved multiple areas of his game each season so far. his ball pressure looks better with team usa, but he will probably need to energy more with the bulls so he probably wont be doing that every play. he still has looked a little awkward playing off the ball, but he's really good at knowing when to make a back door cut or a give and cut fast (ala rose and brad miller A LOT last year) so i think it is just something he will get gradually get more comfortable with.

From what I've seen, playing off the ball is still a BIG problem for him. Sometimes he'll pass it off and stand right infront of the wing man. ... But thibadeau is smart, he'll recognize problems like this and correct them (I think). That's why I'm glad he's detail oriented, and pays attention to everything. He can help rose's team game by a lot, something del negro was 100% clueless on.

I don't know what you're talking about outside of statistics. He's done a great job playing off the ball so far. During the last game (after some practice), he was able to spread things out much better. Early on, sure, there would be problems like that due to lack of practice. However, at this point he's playing very well. He's playing on a team where he isn't getting near the touches he'd get on any other team and is still putting up nice scoring and assist numbers while putting up insanely good efficiency numbers for a point guard.
