Bulls Set To Hire Adrian Griffin

Adrian Griffin will soon round out the staff of Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau.

At 36, Griffin will become one of the youngest bench coaches in the NBA.

"I am very fortunate," Griffin said. "I was just a player two years ago and now I'm a coach. It's very competitive to make an NBA team as a player, but it's even more competitive to become an NBA coach. There are only a few of them (usually five) on each team.

"God has been good to me."

Griffin had been a behind-the-bench coach for the Bucks.

"The Bucks were supportive and I appreciate them being so kind to me," he said. "I owe a lot to Scott [Skiles]; he gave me my first coaching opportunity. Scott was great.

"And John Hammond (the Bucks general manager) was excellent. I'm grateful to all of them."

Heard about the possibility for awhile now.  Obviously a more known name would be ideal, but i'd like to see what he's got.  He always seemed like that journyman vet in the lockeroom.

i read the article on bulls.com. he made a good point saying that he believes skiles gave him a shot at being an assistant because he (griffin) was very slow and not athletic in the least but still managed to stay in the league for 9 years, so he must be bright. griffin mentions that the last few years of his career (while mostly being a 3rd stringer on the bench), he started viewing the game through a coach's eyes and trying to think of the best moves to make, etc. he's real young at 36 years old, but the article mentions that despite being very young, he has 2 years of assistant coaching experience. i know that isn't much, but he at least isn't a rookie. it also mentions he is a well rounded and versatile coach, that he was the big man assistant his first year with the bucks and the back court assistant his second year with them. i know a bigger name would be more enticing, but i'm a bulls fan so i'm going to naturally be optimistic. i honestly think he will bring something to the table worthwhile for the players.

yeah i remember a griff playing for the bulls like 2008 maybe earlier
he was a real pro, despite his minimal minutes. he always knew what he was doing.
he is also familiar with the bulls organization and should be a gem as an assistant.
cant wait for the season to start.

Let's not forget that he started a large portion of games for an elite Dallas team despite his physical restrictions. I didn't have him as one of my top choices, but I can't complain. He's practically been an assistant for half a decade, just doing it while playing, and he can continue to preach great defense like he always had, but more from where he has been meant to.
