Any soccer fans around here?? :lol:
This world cup has been exciting so far to say the least. Not too many suprised just yet in terms of who has qualified for the next round except for Ecuador instead of Poland, but Ecuador clearly played like they deserved the spot. This week should be interesting with some big games ie Argentina vs. Netherlands, England vs. Sweden, USA's whole group, France's group (they may not make it through) and even Spain's group has become interesting :shock:
Its sad that its possible for England and Germany to meet in the next round, which would mean one of them has to end their campaign early. Also sad is that Argentina/Netherlands will be facing Portugal/Mexico in the next round depending on how they finish... :cry:
On a personal note, i hope Australia makes it through, it would be a shame for them to choke when they are so close to the biggest success in the country's soccer history.

I don't care about soccer. However, I have been watching the World Cup lately. If someone who doesn't care as much as I don't care is becoming interested, then soccer is definitely up-and-coming in our country. In many ways this sport is a lot like basketball: teammates pass the ball around and try to break down defenses. One thing I like about soccer is how devoted European fans are. We think we have fans here-they regularly have riots after games there.

Based on team talent, Brazil should win. Based on who's been playing the best, I'd say Argentina, Germany, or Spain. I went with Spain.

Germany has been playing well, and looks tough in front of the home crowd. Don't sleep on Spain they are always in contention.

Trust me, Germany will win the World Cup! I'm in Germany right now and the enthusiasm is crazy here. They got a real superstar in Michael Ballack and 80000000 Mio. people behind them during every game. I've never seen anything like that before... It's just a big, big, big party.

Spain won't win it, unless they've had a total change in their culture they'll choke. they are the opposite of Italy, italy plays like crap at the beginning but then improve a lot for the knock out stage, whereas spain plays great at the begining but always plays bad in hte knock out stage, i'd say they get to quarters max.
Germany won't win, they aren't at brazil, holland and argentinas talent level.
So yeah one of those three will win it, brazil, holland, argentina and maybe Italy. But my choice is Argentina

I like Brazil.
But to be frank, I just can't watch an entire game. No, I'm not ADD. I tried to watch the games -- some were interesting, most were quite sleep inducing :|

Brazil should win this (and therefore I don't think they will). They are by far the most talented team in the world, but they've been playing sort of ordinary Soccer (at least for them). Unless they really step it up, which they are capable of doing, they're going to get upset. I'm rooting for England now that the US is out, I kind of don't want Germany just because they're the home country and they really haven't played anyone yet. England has been playing terribly and some how managed to win all their games, so if they decide to play then they have a good chance (sort of the same problem that Brazil has I suppose). I would've had Portugal becoming a serious threat but after today's game and the ejections, I just don't know. I won't believe Spain can win it until I actually see it happen. My money right is on Argentina, who's been playing the best Soccer of anyone (except for the game against the Netherlands where they just mailed it in to get the tie).
On an related note, despite how well the World Cup has been doing in ratings, it's never going to become a major sport in this country but that doesn't mean it won't be successful and profitable. As long as they recognize they're niche market, and don't try to overexpand (like the NHL did) the MLS and soccer in general will be just fine in the US.

I'm beginning to think all these officating problems that's been going on are killing the fun of the sport... I say we start a witch hunt, or ref hunt. Seriously, I think the refs are there for sports gambling purposes. If they really wanted the game to be fair and square, officiating would be done off the field/court.
