I have to say I'm sincerely grateful the Raptors didn't trade Gay for Charlie V and Stuckey as was rumored. I didn't think you could possibly send a lowball offer for Gay, but the Pistons did it.

What?  That would have been a great deal for the Raptors, both of those contracts expire this year.  Clean slate next year with $20 million in cap space.

I was under the assumption they wanted to be competitive this year, though.

If Rudy Gay is the thing you're relying on to keep you competitive you might as well give up.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Derozan can do anything Gay would this season, and any little difference there would be, certainly wouldn't be worth 20 million.

Nah, they are definitely going after Wiggins.

Really? Because they refused to pull the trigger on that Detroit deal and the team as currently constructed is good for at least 30 wins. They'll need some real luck to get anywhere near Wiggins.

They're definitely not tanking.

I don't think they're opposed to the deal because of how bad it makes them but because they want tangible assets. I know cap space is valuable but they said they're not into a straight salary dump.

Right, like Max Power said, they are not opposed to tanking, but I guess they just don't want to make it too obvious that they are tanking by just dumping salaries.  They want draft picks and/or young prospects for Rudy Gay.

No, they're not tanking.  Whether they make that trade has absolutely nothing to do with tanking.

If they trade Rudy Gay for draft picks, what would you call that?

Trading Rudy Gay for draft picks?  This team will be pretty good as long as they have Lowry, Amir and Jonas.

Yeah the effect of Rudy on this team should be pretty neutral

25-28 win team right there.  Hopefully.
