There has been talk now of Kevin Love wanting out of Minnesota as well. The Mirotic situation is difficult b/c there is no way to gauge his skill level as of yet. He has only played in a select number of games against NBA preseason rosters.  Kevin Love however is a legit NBA star and get get you 20 & 10 or better ever night. So Mirotic would have to be better then that for me to keep his rights.

There is a lot about him not wanting to leave his life in Spain and position with Europe's hottest team Real Madrid. So 2015 seems logical. however, I would not be surprised the date moved to 2016 or even 2017. Then his value as a trade chip drops considerably. My money would be packaging The rights to Mirotic, The Bobcats pick (currently #14) & Jimmy Butler for Love this summer and amnestying Boozer. The Bulls will still have cap room and another draft pick this year, and still a chance to luck out with the Kings pick.

Good post. Love would be that power forward we need badly. He's worth every penny of it. The rest would come naturally by that time.

It's a good line up but it's got nothing on:

Walker
Henderson
MKG
Bennett
Randle

Now that's a playoff team.

We are a playoff team without Randle.

So you Bennett and Randle would be better than McBob and Big Al right now?

I think Randle would be an upgrade over McBob.

And it looks like the Bulls can position themselves to sign him after he walks rather than have to trade assets for him. Word is he really likes the idea of playing in Chicago b/c of the roster's hustle and Thibs coaching. So don't be surprised to see the team use Mirotic's rights to get another piece to the puzzle. He is most likely coming to NBA in summer of 2015 which is the same year Love can opted out. And when Boozer's contract ends too I believe. The FA signing period usually starts on July 1st, So would be risky to do a trade on draft night (late June) w/o Love in the fold all ready, but he is definitely on the teams radar.

The Bulls have to walk a financial tight rope.  That Summer they will have $34.2 million guranteed to Rose and Noah, and then another $8.5 million guranteed to Taj.  Then you have to factor in Chicago's picks this season and next.

To sign Love the Bulls will HAVE to trade Taj for cap relief, and possibly lose the rights to re-sign Butler (but I am iffy about those particuler rules).

Yes, I missed the boat on Bennett, he would not be much help.

Guesstimation

Rose 20m
mini MLE 3m
Snell 1.5
MLE 5m
Love 16.5 or Mirotic 8 m
Noah 13.4
Taj 8.5
2014 #14 Rookie 1.5m
2014 #18 Rookie  1.3m
2015 #11 Rookie 1.9m (Kings Pick?)
2015 #25 Rookie 1m

Range is 73.1m to 81.6m

They shopped Butler before the deadline, and I doubt Bulls resign him. He is great defender, but his offense is luke warm and he isn't a great ball handler. Not that I don't like Jimmy Buckets its just not worth the re-sign price. This summer and next summer's drafts will shape out the rest of the team. Look for them to draft with an eye on their checkbook.

#1 Example: if you package Taj 8 m,  and 2014 #14 1.5 m that's 9.5m and you could move up to say 2014 10th.

2013 10th selection C.J. McCollum $2,3 $2,4 $2,5 $3,2 $4,3

This year #10 could get you Doug McBuckets or Aaron Gordon

#2 Example: if you package Taj 8m, Butler 2m & #14 selection, you could get into the Top 5 with a salary range of 4.4m to 2.9m.

And you still keep Mirotic's rights as a trade chip for Love or you could sign him.

Da_madhouse, you obviously do not understand how the salary cap works.  The salary cap will be around $62 million.  With $42.7 million guaranteed to three guys (Noah, Rose, and Taj) and $3.2 for this year's picks, that is $45.9 million.  That is 5 players.  They would have minimum contract cap holds for 7 roster spots, which adds another $3.5 million.  That comes out to a total of $49.4 million.

Assuming a $62 million cap, Chicago would be able to give Love around $12 million.  That is without Snell, and the MLE guy, I assume you mean they sign this off season and the draft picks from next year.

There is just no way Chicago can give Love a max contract without getting rid of Taj and bringing back almost zero salary.

I understand it fine. I have been following NBA cap rules for a very long time. You OBVIOUSLY just don't know how to read. I never said anything about anything your talking about.  B/C I all ready knew those facts, I just listed all the known expenses they had to show how much they were off by. I even proposed two trade ideas for Gibson, but you most have missed that. When you gain the ability of critical reading you might check out this site.
