Quote
Mike D'Antoni has one more guaranteed season on his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and the franchise is leaning toward retaining him.

There have been rumblings both privately and publicly that there have been some disgruntled players.

The Lakers hired D'Antoni to replace Mike Brown in November of 2012 despite being close to a deal with Phil Jackson.

I have made my thoughts clear on this but I guess it beats hiring some coach who may overachieve.

they should bring dude back just because mufuckas keep saying they can't. Lol  next year's a throw away year being that they can really only try to build for the '16 season anyway.

hell, they could go ahead and announce it now and cancel all the pending Melo talk in the off-season if they really wanted to.

I just don't think he is a Championship caliber coach but since next year is a throw away, whatever.

I don't really know about this. We should see how the draft goes and what free agency looks like. As long as we decide before training camp we're good. Didn't we trade our 15' first rounder? I'd rather be competitive.

Lakers' 2015 1st rounder is Top 5 protected, not Top 7

http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/summary/2015

as you can see, Orlando could get LAL's 2nd rounder as well

I just don't think he is a Championship caliber coach but since next year is a throw away, whatever.

I missed this the first time.  How many players/coaches have been deemed "could not win a title" until they did?  It is flawed logic.

Has not achieved something yet =/= cannot achieve it

Larry Brown coached in the ABA/NBA for 20 seasons before he won a title (17 years before he went to a Finals).

8 seasons for Rick Carlisle and Doc Rivers

10 seasons for Bill Fitch (who won a title with Bird and the Celtics in 1980-81).

I guess Jerry Sloan was not a championship caliber coach.

He may have some success in a less pressure situation. I just think the bright lights of Staples were too much for him.
